Most Popular Cherry Pickers
Types of Cherry Pickers Available
Tracked Cherry Pickers (Spider Lifts)
Tracked cherry pickers – also known as spider lifts – run on rubber tracks rather than wheels. Their narrow profile and articulating outriggers let them access ground that would stop a wheeled machine: soft turf, slopes, uneven surfaces, and confined indoor spaces. We stock Hinowa spider lifts as our core tracked range – lightweight, easy to trailer, and available in working heights from 13m to over 30m.
Popular with arborists, facilities teams, and contractors working in gardens, churches, and heritage sites.
Towable / Trailer-Mounted Cherry Pickers
Towable cherry pickers are towed to site on a standard trailer hitch and set up quickly without a dedicated transport vehicle. A practical, cost-effective option for contractors who need high reach across multiple sites without the outlay of a self-propelled machine. Available in electric and diesel variants from brands including Niftylift.
Self-Propelled Cherry Pickers
Self-propelled cherry pickers drive under their own power, giving operators full site mobility without any towing setup. Available as articulated boom lifts and telescopic boom lifts, including rough terrain 4×4 platforms from JLG. The right choice for construction sites, large facilities, and any application where the machine needs to move frequently around the worksite.
Buy a New or Used Cherry Picker

FAQ Section
What is a Cherry Picker?
A cherry picker is a type of mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) that provides safe, controlled access to work at height. The term covers a wide range of machine types – from compact tracked spider lifts to truck-mounted platforms – and they’re used across construction, utilities, arboriculture, facilities maintenance, telecoms, signage, and roofing.
What types of cherry picker are available?
The main types are:
- Tracked cherry pickers (spider lifts) – narrow, lightweight, ideal for soft or uneven ground. View tracked cherry pickers
- Towable / trailer-mounted cherry pickers – towed to site, versatile, no dedicated transport needed. View towable cherry pickers
- Articulated boom lifts – self-propelled, highly manoeuvrable, suited to complex site layouts. View articulated booms
- Telescopic boom lifts – maximum straight-line reach for open sites and large structures. View telescopic booms
- Truck-mounted cherry pickers – highest reach for highways, utilities, and telecoms. View truck-mounted lifts

Do you need a licence to operate a cherry picker?
No specific licence is required to operate a cherry picker on a private site, but operators must be properly trained. The recognised qualifications are IPAF (PAL card) and NPORS – both are widely accepted across UK construction and facilities sectors. APS offers IPAF training for operators at all levels.
If operating a truck-mounted cherry picker on a public road, you’ll need the appropriate driving licence category for the vehicle.
Why is it called a cherry picker?
The name comes from the machines originally being built to help orchard workers reach high fruit. The term has stuck, even though modern cherry pickers are used everywhere from construction sites to cathedrals.
Can APS provide LOLER inspections and servicing for my cherry picker?
Yes. We have a nationwide network of IPAF CAP-certified engineers who carry out LOLER thorough examinations every six months as required under LOLER 98, alongside scheduled servicing and fast-response breakdown cover. All approved used machines we sell come with a current LOLER certificate included.
Does APS supply cherry picker parts?
Yes – our online parts shop stocks thousands of OEM parts for the main cherry picker brands, with next-day delivery available on most lines. We stock parts for Hinowa, JLG, Niftylift, Skyjack, and more.
