New Genie boom lifts for market-leading steel erectors Shufflebottom

Industry: Construction & Demolition Manufacturer: Genie

Challenge: Shufflebottom is the UK market leader in steel frame agricultural buildings. The company’s steel erectors spend a lot of time working at height, and often on rough terrain. It wanted to replace its ageing powered access fleet with new rough terrain boom lifts.

Solution: APS supplied Shufflebottom with five new Genie Z-45/25J RT 4WD articulating booms lifts. Designed for construction applications, they provide a great working envelope and superb rough terrain capabilities.

Outcomes: Shufflebottom deploys the Genie booms for both steel frame erection and cladding work. The company employed long-standing sub-contractor Tracey Structures to erect a 30m x 24m grain store for Wallington Farms in Royston, Hertfordshire. Wallington was installing solar panels on the roof of the concrete panelled structure as part of its ongoing investment in renewable energy. Supported by a telehandler, the Genie booms worked on connecting the steel beams, and were used extensively to roof and clad the building.

“We have had Genie booms for years and our employees absolutely love them. They are very reliable, high performance machines with really good rough terrain capabilities. They are almost constantly in use so we need booms we can trust – our business depends on them.”

“The Genie Z-45 is a great piece of kit. The fly jib makes all the difference. It means the operator doesn’t have to tack around all the time, so it makes us more efficient.

“Fundamentally, the new Genies that Shufflebottom has just bought are essentially the same machines as those it bought in 2004. This is important as our operators know exactly where everything is and how it works. Genie has improved and tweaked them, but has avoided falling into that trap where changes are introduced for no good reason.”
