Genie boom assists with inspection on Grade II listed manor house

Industry: Historic Buildings Manufacturer: Genie

Challenge: Stisted Hall is a Grade II listed manor house near Braintree in Essex that was converted into a residential care home. The owners required a working at height solution to carry out inspection and maintenance on the building. They turned to Cannon Access, a local independent access hire specialist, for professional advice on the best solution.

Solution: Cannon Access supplied the Genie Z-62/40 articulating boom lift. This has a working height of 20.9m and horizontal outreach of up to 12.5m. The Genie Z-62 also has zero rear tail swing and minimal front turntable tail swing in the stowed position.

Outcomes: The Genie boom's up-and-over reach was particularly useful for accessing the stonework above the portico of the building's main entrance. The Genie Fast Mast system enables the operator to lower the platform to the ground without having to lower the secondary boom, ensuring fast descent. When elevating, it also raises both boom sections simultaneously, further increasing productivity.

“This is a brilliantly-made machine that has all the hallmarks of Genie quality, durability and performance, the amount of thought in the design is staggering. We buy a lot of our access platforms from APS so we know they provide a high quality after-sales service, which completes the package.

“The Fast Mast system is excellent and our customers also appreciate the larger 8ft basket. We have some lightweight 20m booms in the fleet like the Niftylift HR21 and that is a great compact machine for certain applications. However with the Genie Z-62/40 there really is no compromise; it’s got great performance, excellent stability and a really robust design - plus it’s very easy and intuitive to use.”
