Clerkin Elevation invest in 42m Ommelift tracked boom for phone mast maintenance work

Industry: Telecoms & Utilities Manufacturer: Ommelift

Challenge: Clerkin Elevation is an independent access hire specialist based in Rostrevor, County Down, Northern Ireland. The company required a 40m+ working height machine with a very low height-to-weight ratio that it could use for inspection and maintenance work on phone masts.

Solution: APS provided Clerkin Elevation with a 42m working height Ommelift 4200 RBDJ tracked boom lift. Weighing just 6,805kg and capable of setting up on 27% inclines, the Ommelift 4200 RBDJ telescopic boom can operate in areas unsuitable for conventional self-propelled booms. The crawler chassis and low ground pressure ensure it can handle soft or boggy ground and steep slopes in order to reach the masts.

Outcomes: The low ground pressure of the Ommelift means that it is ideal for travelling across open ground to phone masts, as it easily copes with rough terrain and doesn’t chew up the ground as it travels. The true hybrid drive system ensures that Clerkin can operate the machine on 100% battery power for extended periods, providing emissions-free working at height for its client.

“We looked at several equivalent models and felt that the Ommelift had the best combination of quality, easy operation and low ground pressure. At less than seven tonnes it was far lighter than some of the other machines in this bracket.

“Feedback so far is that it is a very solid, reliable machine that is easy to operate. We are also impressed with how it runs so well off the battery.”
