Wienold glass lift installation project at Leicester Square's famous Empire Cinema

Industry: Retail & Leisure Manufacturer: Wienold Lifte

Challenge: The famous Empire Cinema in London’s Leicester Square required a 4m x 2.5m glass panel fitting to the building. The glaziers working on behalf of the cinema contacted hire company Hird for expert advice on the best lifting solution to safely affix the 350kg panel in a display window.

Solution: Hird supplied the contractor with the innovative GML 800+ from Wienold Lifte fitted with the Overhead Glazing Manipulator an attachment, which has a maximum lifting capacity of 500kg. The GML 800+ counterbalance material lift is easy to operate, especially in confined areas, while delivering impressive lifting capability. The counterbalance floor crane’s wheel system enables smooth and precise movement, so operators can position the machine with millimetre accuracy.

Outcomes: The compact and lightweight GML 800+ was quick and easy to transport, helping the contractor to save money on delivery. Its compact footprint ensured that disruption to pedestrians was kept to a minimum. The ease of use enabled the contractor to complete the glass installation quickly and safely.

“Glass installation companies often have to operate in live environments, where it is essential to complete glazing projects quickly and safely in the least amount of space to minimise disruption to the public.

“The Wienold GML 800+ epitomises an excellent solution for these challenging requirements. It is easy to transport and move into position, is light weight, so can be used both indoors and outdoors, but has great glass lifting performance.”
