High Performing Platform for Edinburgh-based Specialist Cleaning Company

Industry: Cleaning & Maintenance Manufacturer: Hinowa

Challenge: Keystone Preservation is an Edinburgh-based specialist cleaning company. It uses the innovative DOFF steam cleaning device to remove paint and biological matter from buildings, ranging from commercial properties to historic buildings and stately homes. The company required a 17m working height access platform that had very low ground pressure, and compact dimensions for passing through gateways and down the side of buildings. The machine needed to be easy and low-cost to transport, while it also had to have sufficient platform capacity to safely carry both the operator and the DOFF cleaning machine.

Solution: APS provided Keystone with a Hinowa Lightlift 17.75 Performance IIIS tracked boom lift. Mounted on a crawler chassis, this 17m boom has very low ground pressure and non-marking tracks, making it ideal for working on soft ground or paving. It has a compact stabiliser footprint and the drive train has a three-speed system, which ensures that it reaches the work area quickly.

Outcomes: The light weight, compact dimensions and low ground pressure of the Hinowa make it easy for Keystone to tow it on a trailer behind the company’s 4x4. These attributes also mean that clients with listed buildings do not need to apply for planning permission for the machine to come on site.

“It’s a piece of equipment which is easy enough for us to transport to a property, but which can extend to great heights and allow us to reach those tricky parts of a building.

“In addition, the size and nature of the tracked boom mean that no planning permission is required when it comes to the erection and use of this equipment on a property. This can be particularly useful for those with listed buildings or within the heritage sector, where obtaining planning permission for any building maintenance and improvements can prove tricky.”
